FAQ
Posted by Kate
The band themselves frequently ask a lot of questions. Here is a list of the MOST frequent:
“Fancy a brew dude?”
“Have you put the kettle on?”
“Have we got enough tea bags?
“How do you make the perfect cup of tea?”
“Fancy a twiglet with that?”
“How many sweets do you think you can actually get in your mouth at once?”
“What brand of tea bag is THAT?”
“How many guitars can we afford this month?”
*hurried whispering*
Oh, I see. Apparently it’s more interesting it we tell you the answers to questions people ask us. Here goes then:
How did Ultraxine form?
We were walking down Tottenham Court Road in Landarrn Tahhn Madey, and one of us said to the other “dude, let’s be in a band together”. After lots of mishaps, false starts and randomness, 3 years later, we formed one. True story.
Where does the name Ultraxine come from?
We knew we wanted to have some sort of Ultra-ness in the band name, and then went through lots of possibilities until we found one that we liked that wasn’t already registered by a pharmaceutical company. True story. “Ultraxine. For all your rocking needs”. The name is pronounced “Ultra-Zeen” for those not in the know. Or for those who fear the letter X.
Fancy a brew dude?
Well obviously. What took you so long? Ta.
Have we got enough tea bags?
You can never have enough tea bags. Like rum, skulls and crossbones, stars and glitter – all these things should be in limitless supply.
How do you make the perfect cup of tea?
The answer to that is to be found on the back of our first single. If you haven’t bought it, then we’re not going to share it with you. But for reference, it definitely doesn’t involve sugar. Or tartaric acid.
Where can I buy your music?
You can buy the single or the album at one of our gigs, or via this website or our MySpace. Be quick though, there’s only a few single left and after that there won’t be any more. Don’t forget £1 from every single sold goes to Cancer Research on behalf of www.madsabadgers.org. Our album is also available to download from I-Tunes, Amazon and e-Music.
Are you available for gigs?
Yes – drop us an email (ultraxine@gmail.com) and we’ll get something arranged. You can book us for acoustic sets – where Kate and Taz turn up with their acoustic guitars and sing harmoniously over some great tunes, of for full electric sets where Kate, Taz and Micky turn up with their electric guitars and drums, and they rock hard whilst singing harmoniously over some great tunes.
What bands do you like to listen to yourselves?
Lots. We list some on our MySpace (www.myspace.com/ultraxine) but, like most of the people we know, we like a multitudinous mass of musical delights, so it would be unfair (and laborious) to list them all here.
What’s the best thing about being in Ultraxine?
Definitely hearing the music we write come to life. And the brew drinking. And basically just having fun and enjoying what we do – if we didn’t have a laugh doing it then we wouldn’t still be here.
What’s the worst thing about being in Ultraxine?
Well one of us lives in London, and the other two live in Leeds…so you work it out! It means we can’t rehearse as much as we’d like and it makes gigging at anything other than a weekend difficult – which isn’t always easy when you’re a new band and no-one knows who you are – as promoters only seem to want to offer you 11.30 on a Wednesday night in a barn playing to a haystack! But because we can’t rehearse often it also means when we do rehearse (every other week as a minumum) then the rehearsals are usually long (8 hours if we’re on form) and so we get LOADS done anyway! So that extra geographical obstacle might actually make us more motivated.
How many sweets can you get in your mouth at once?
It depends on the type of sweet. If it’s large or fizzy then less than if it’s small or squishy. Truth be told we have not yet experimented with an answer to this fundamental question.
Why is the album called “Taking Sweets From Strangers?”
Because it’s a really really cool name. And if you think about it, it’s a bit of a description as well. You figure it out.
What’s your favourite word?
Spang-tastic. Or Pantoufle. Although there’s quite a large amount of band debate about how the latter is pronounced.
What’s a Pantoufle?
Now, that’s a question.
Can you dance?
Only downstairs.
Do you drink beer?
Yes. No. Sideways quark and a banana. Who doesn’t?
What 3 things do you aim to do in 2009?
Write more songs, write LESS songs with the chord E in them, gig more, drink more tea, and learn to count.
Is there anything left about you that would really amaze and interest us?
Er, no, probably not. But incidentally, Kate has had the same phone number for at least 7 years. Taz thinks she’s had hers for about 5, but can’t be sure.
